Bermuda Weather

Bermuda is a sub-tropical island which means the weather is generally comfortable year round. Despite being further North than the islands in the Caribbean, the Gulf of Mexico that flows to the West and dissipates North of the island helps keep the waters warm and stops air temperatures from getting too low.

Bermuda Weather – Temperature

The temperature range in Bermuda is very moderate with winter lows being around 60°F (15°C) and the high being around 90°F (32°C); a much smaller range than other places of similar latitude. February is the coldest month with average lows of 61°F (16°C) while August is the warmest with average highs of 86°F (30°C). However, the temperature can often feel higher or lower due to the high humidity on the island. The sea surface temperatures are often very close to the air temperature

Bermuda Weather – Rain

Unlike other countries, Bermuda does not have a rainy season although it tends to rain year round. The average yearly rainfall on the island is about 55 inches. However, you should not have to worry too much about the rain as showers typically last no more than a few hours. Bermudians have grown to appreciate the rain as it is our primary source of fresh water.

Bermuda Weather – Wind

The prevailing wind in Bermuda is from the West like most countries in the Western Hemisphere. During the summer you can expect a gentle breeze most of the time while the windier months are from January to April.

Bermuda Weather – Other Phenomena

Even though Bermuda is too small to be drawn on most maps, the island tends to get impacted by hurricanes quite often. This is due to the warm waters from the Gulf of Mexico creating an ideal path for the storms to travel North. The island expects to get hit by mild hurricanes about every with stronger hurricanes hitting every few years. Hurricane season lasts from June until November with September being the busiest month as a result of the high sea surface temperatures.

During the winter Bermuda can also be affected by winter storms. These storms tend to be the remnants of snowstorms hitting the North East of the United States and arrive on island as heavy winds and rains that can last for a few days.
